After African Lion 2022, the largest and most important American combined military exercise in Africa, which took place largely in Morocco, the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) are participating in another large-scale military exercise, in the Eager Lion event, which is held from September 4 to 15, 2022 in Jordan. In addition to the Kingdom, the United States and Jordan, 27 partner countries are involved. Other Arab countries participating in the military exercises are Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman.
Eager Lion is one of the major military exercises in the region and aims to exchange military skills and improve cooperations as well as interoperability between partner nations, including counter-terrorism operations and weapons threats from mass destruction. In a press release, the Jordanian army announces that this tenth session of the exercise, aims to allow “joint work in the field of the fight against terrorism, the development of security capacities and cooperation between the agencies and institutions of different countries to respond to security threats and internal crises”.
“Eager Lion is a multi-faceted event that demonstrates our commitment to partnerships and responsive joint forces operating in complex environments that offer no easy wins or quick wins,” said Major General Steven J. deMilliano. , director of the office of exercises and training of the United States Central Command
“More broadly, these partnerships enable armies to increase their capabilities and respond quickly to demanding crisis situations,” he adds.
On the other hand, the exercise demonstrates the United States’ commitment to its partners in the Middle East and the joint defense against hybrid threats emanating from state and non-state actors. The scenario adopted makes it possible to test interoperability in the face of regional challenges in the air, land, maritime and cyber domains. Concretely, this consists of a field training exercise with a combined arms live fire exercise, a command post exercise and a seminar for senior officials to facilitate the sharing of information from the tactical level to the strategic level.
Nearly 1,700 members of the American services, 2,200 members of the Jordanian Armed Forces and 591 members of the coalition from 28 other partner countries are participating or observing this multilateral military training exercise.
