Antonio Rudiger joined Real Madrid on a free transfer in June 2022, after completing his contract at Chelsea.
The German player turned down successive extension offers from Chelsea and several offers from top European clubs to join Real Madrid.
Now Saif Rubie, Rudiger’s agent, has confessed that Real Madrid’s offer for his pictured player was the smallest financially he has received. “Let me confirm it, live on air Real Madrid’s offer was the lowest,” he told talkSPORT.
“There was a club in England who were offering almost double the amount and a club in Europe who were doubling the amount. I’m not going to discuss the details. Everyone knows there were teams interested in this player. He was one of the best in the world.” Rubie also explained how Chelsea didn’t make an effort to keep the German defender, despite his undoubted quality.
“What if I told you that Chelsea, and the old regime, made almost no effort to keep the player,” he said. “At the time, he was very happy to stay and potentially be the captain of the club. He was offered a contract that was half of what Romelu Lukaku was earning. You talk about trading on the margins.”
