LaQuan Smith hosted TV stars, music stars and other international models as well as the press at the Intrepid Maritime and Air Museum in New York on Monday.
As New York Fashion Week kicked off on Friday, the luxury fashion designer, founder of the womenswear brand that bears his name, presented its spring-summer 2023 ready-to-wear collection.
Well-known personalities, such as Julia Fox, Lourdes Leon daughter of Madonna or La La Anthony attended the show.
“I love LaQuan. He’s so edgy. He made my outfit for the Met Ball. So of course I wanted to come and support him. He’s one of my favorite designers and I’m thrilled to be here.” confided La LA Anthony.
Colourful, daring and flirtatious, the collection unveils transparent organza dresses and tops and colorful wide-leg pants. An ode to a confident and sassy woman.
“This season was kind of a big creative challenge for me because I kind of had to make things a lot lighter, a lot softer. And I think this collection was sort of romantic and erotic, while being luxurious, young and fresh. And I hope people can, you know, I hope that’s the experience that they take away.” revealed the designer, LaQuan Smith.
LaQuan Smith, born in Queens, NY, struggled to find her calling in the fashion industry. Rejected by leading schools in the sector like Parsons, the creator of the 3D leggings that made him famous, today works with top models like Winnie Arlow and Cindy Bruna.
“You know, sometimes I have to pinch myself and realize like, ‘Oh my God, Beyoncé just wore LaQuan Smith on the billboard at Tiffany and Co. Holy shit! You know, it’s something important. These are the things I dreamed of. And, you know, I keep making my dreams come true, and I keep building my brand and doing the things that I’ve always dreamed of. So, honestly, I’m just really, really blessed.” enthused the creator.
Monochromatic or two-tone looks with striking colors in cobalt blue, periwinkle, red, yellow or pink, have seduced and still seduce the big names in the world of entertainment. Beyonce therefore but also Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Kim Kardashian were among her first supporters.
Today LaQuan Smith delivers its designs to customers across the world, from Lagos to London.
