FC Barcelona have studied the possibility of buying Fekir or Verratti to recruit a midfielder after missing Bernardo Silva.
Ambitious on the transfer market, FC Barcelona did not give up until the end. While the Catalan club got rid of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, it was also still active in terms of arrivals. FC Barcelona was ready to push the transfer window until the last minute. The Blaugranas, who concluded the arrivals of Marcos Alonso and Héctor Bellerín on September 1, wanted even more.
Verratti, Barça’s preferred option
Indeed, during the last hours of the summer transfer window, various Catalan media assured that Barça is preparing a final addition and even “Jijantes” explained that they consulted the authorities of La Liga to find out if this recruitment would be viable and if the club could register an additional player with a salary of 6 million euros.
Facing the impossibility of signing Bernardo Silva from Manchester City, the Blaugrana have assessed two options to strengthen their midfield, one is PSG’s Marco Verratti and the other is Nabil Fekir. Barca’s preferred option was the one leading the Italian but that was obviously the most complicated and PSG sources have assured GOAL that he won’t move from Parc des Princes.
No additional midfielder
Eager to appear well on the European scene and having had a tedious summer, PSG do not want to lose the keystone of their game. Consequently, the Blaugrana club, as GOAL was able to confirm, had also initiated contacts with the Betis to sign Nabil Fekir, who could have been the star of a sale that would solve all the economic problems Betis suffered this summer in signing and registering players.
Nevertheless, Betis and FC Barcelona failed to reach an agreement, and the famous white smoke did not arrive until midnight. At the same time, while the deal did not materialize and Fekir remained at Betis, the Frenchman negotiated a restructuring of his salary in the contract he renewed a few months ago to help the club to regulate its payroll and sign Willian José before the transfer window deadline.
For its part, FC Barcelona will therefore end its transfer market without having its additional midfielder so desired by Xavi. Neither Bernardo Silva, nor Verratti, nor Fekir have arrived to strengthen the Blaugranas. Nonetheless, Barca can rely on a competitive squad and will be a team to watch closely in La Liga and the Champions League.
