This smart wireless speaker with an atypical and eco-responsible design is offered at an affordable price.
As IFA 2022 was about to open its doors in Berlin, with a whole series of innovations in soundHarman Kardon has announced a new generation for its wireless speakers OnyxStudio. This eighth edition brings practical features and a more environmentally friendly design.
A portable speaker, always for the home
Although the Onyx Studio series relies on Bluetooth technology, this version remains designed above all for the home. It retains a circular design, but now made from recycled materials, and is still surrounded by a ring-shaped handle reminiscent of a planet.
It does not benefit from any certification for a possible resistance to water or dust, unlike most nomadic speakers, which prevents it from being transported to the edge of a swimming pool, in a park or even to the beach. Its wireless connectivity (Bluetooth) nevertheless allows it to be easily moved from one room to another according to the needs and desires of the user, knowing that it weighs just over 3 kg.
Moreover, on this point, it is enriched with a self-calibration technology which offers an automatic setting of the sound when the speaker changes environment.
A stable technical sheet compared to the Onyx Studio 7
The Onyx Studio 8 propels sound through a large 120mm driver and dual 20mm tweeter. Like its predecessor, it can be connected to another Onyx Studio 8 speaker to deliver stereo and therefore more powerful sound.
A configuration which does not however evolve compared to the previous generation. Only addition: the presence of two microphones to answer phone calls.
This feature is very popular with users, but the manufacturer has still not announced support for voice assistants to control sound volume and music playlists.
Harman Kardon finally indicates an autonomy of 8 hours, similar to that of the Onyx Studio 7.
This new Bluetooth speaker will be available in black, champagne or dark blue from mid-October at a price of €299.
