The work of the first meeting of the Forum of African Regions (FORAF) opened on Thursday in Saidia, under the theme “The contribution of Regional Authorities to sustainable development and the dynamics of integration in Africa”.
Organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, by the Association of Regions of Morocco (ARM), in collaboration with the United Cities and Local Government Organization of Africa (UCLG Africa), and the Regional Council of ‘Oriental, with the support of the Ministry of the Interior (Direction Générale des Collectivités Territoriales -DGCT-), this first FORAF meeting saw the participation of more than 20 African countries adopting a decentralized system, with the presence of approximately 85 presidents of African regions.
This forum is part of the implementation of the decisions taken by the General Assembly of UCLG Africa during the 8th edition of the Africities Summit, held in Marrakech in November 2018.
The work of the forum, in which the presidents of regions, counties and federated states take part, will focus on several panels and workshops which will benefit more than 400 participants, including a large number of Moroccan and African regional elected officials, in addition to institutional partners. national and foreign regional councils.
