The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) jury selected a total of 382 nominations (out of a total of 9,067 entries submitted, the highest number ever recorded) in 39 categories, the organizers said in a statement. These nominations represent the five regions of Africa, as well as the diaspora.
For Morocco, Moroccan singer Manal Benchlikha, Moroccan-Canadian star Faouzia and Franco-Moroccan singer Marwa Loud are nominated for the category “Best Female Artist, North Africa”. Manal is also nominated in the categories “Artist of the Year” and “Best Female Artist in Africa, Inspirational Music”, while Faouzia and Marwa Loud appear in that of “Best African Act in Diaspora (Female)”. For his part, Moroccan rapper El Grande Toto is nominated for the categories of “Best Male Artist, North Africa” and “Breakout Artist of the Year”.
The judging panel, made up of a 12-member panel of music experts, along with the AUC, held a 10-day auction in July to filter the best entries from the scrum to make up the shortlist. For the 2022 edition, North Africa has recorded a total of 49 nominations in 12 categories, a record, since the launch of the competition.
The All Africa Music Awards 2022 will be held from December 8 to 11, 2022. A special announcement will be made on the host country and venue of the awards on September 30, 2022. The AFRIMA Awards Ceremony will include a 4-day music party , glitz and glamor aimed at celebrating Africa, recognizing talent and expanding the economic frontiers of culture and the creative industry on the continent.
