a warning is displayed if your AirPods are fake

Currently, when you repair your iPhone with non-original parts, Apple is able to detect it and displays a warning in your device settings. And soon, your iPhone will also be able to detect fake AirPods, and warn you.

This new feature has not been officially announced by Apple, but the 9to5Mac site indicates that it discovered its existence while digging through the code of the beta (almost final) version ofiOS 16, the company’s new operating system. According to the site, when the user tries to connect fake AirPods, the operating system would display the following message: “These headphones could not be verified as genuine AirPods and may not behave as expected. »

The alert would also include a link to an Apple help page that teaches the user how to identify fake AirPods. And there would also be a button allowing the user to backtrack and not connect the offending accessories.

9to5Mac says this feature shouldn’t affect third-party headphones or headsets. Indeed, the system would have been created in order to identify fake AirPods that try to imitate the official protocol of the Cupertino company. And moreover, Apple would have decided to simply display this message in an alert, but without prohibiting the use of fake AirPods on its iPhone or iPad.

Since Apple is the number one in the market for wireless headphones, or TWS, today, there are many AirPods clones in the world (concerning the iPhone, clones of theiPhone 14 Pro are already marketed although the original has not been released). And it seems that the Cupertino company has finally decided to do something about these counterfeits.

Apple anticipates fake AirPods Pro 2?

Otherwise, 9to5Mac discovers the existence of this new feature against counterfeits when Apple has just introduced new AirPods. Indeed, in addition to the new Apple Watch and iPhone 14, the firm has also lifted the veil on the AirPods Pro 2.

In our hands-on review of this new pair of wireless headphones, we talked about the improvements made by Apple thanks to the new H2 chip. As far as sound quality is concerned, the bass is better controlled. The firm has also developed new, even more effective noise reduction algorithms. And finally, on the AirPods Pro 2, it will be possible to control the volume by touching the branches of the headphones.

In addition, with the new chip, the AirPods Pro 2 also gain in autonomy: 6 hours of listening with noise cancellation activated and up to 30 hours thanks to the case. With the ANC deactivated, it’s even more enduring: 7 hours of listening and up to 35 hours with the case.

The AirPods Pro 2 are already available for pre-order at a price of 299 euros. And these will be marketed from September 23rd.
